Baseerat Javed
I’ve been telling stories to children all my life. I have 13 nieces and nephews, and for every single one of them, I have written a story and gifted it to them as their own personal story created by me. One of my nephews, who is now a doctor, recently told me he found an old notebook that had a story I wrote for him 35 years ago, and he gave it to me, asking me why I had stopped writing. He believed I should get it published. I was quite surprised that he had saved it all these years. As a result, I found myself digging through my old journals and writing new stories for children. I believe that my stories will inspire them with important life lessons about honesty, bravery, and family values.
An obsidian cat that turns people into stone. A man and his son investigate an ancient curse. Deadly monsters and dangers at every turn.
A cat that can turn people to stone with a stare, and a man and his son who investigate an ancient curse that has haunted their village for decades.
Baseerat Javed’s eloquently written masterpiece has all the suspense, excitement, and engagement that one would expect from great children’s books about adventure. This story will take readers all across India in a powerful story that gives us the protagonists of Samir and Ramie, a bookbinder with a heart of gold and his adventurous son who wants more from life. The book takes the reader from the village of Pamidi as the protagonists explore the ancient curse that has been placed on Gandikota Fort, where they find themselves facing numerous obstacles that will transform them into the powerful heroes that they become by the end of the story.
This is a powerful literary gem that contains a well-written and strong plot, with complex characters who grow throughout the story as they find themselves learning vital life lessons on their quest through the rich and unique land of India.
The setting features numerous interesting locales that are described very well, such as the bookbinding shop in Pamidi to the mystical architecture of Gandikota Fort. The setting contains such well described locations that the reader will feel immersed in them. The character of Ramie is that of a classic coming-of-age arc that many readers will find resonates with them even after they have turned the final page.
All my life I have been telling stories and jotting them down in my many journals.
